The main goal of PopEye is to develop a new identity verification and identification framework through the fusion of robust, unobtrusive and on-the-move biometric technologies to improve the capabilities of Border Authorities and Law Enforcement Agencies when performing identity checks at EU external borders, increasing security within the Schengen Area and maximising travellers’ experience. See also the About page.
The identification and verification of passengers is a crucial process for ensuring security and safety within the Schengen Area. However, border controls and processing times are often lengthy, leading to various social and economic challenges, including individual frustration, higher operational costs, diminished business competitiveness, supply chain disruptions, among others. As a result, there is a need to enhance the efficiency of this process without compromising security.
PopEye aims to deliver efficient, fast, and reliable means to verify travellers identities on-the-move at sea and land borders and in a variety of settings. See also our Objectives.
The PopEye consortium comprises 13 partners from 11 Member States. They are grouped into 4 categories: Research Institutes and Universities, European Associations, Large Entities and SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises), and Practitioners. See also PopEye Partners.
